His wife Spirit Tawfiq is an entrepreneur and creative changemaker. She is the founder of the “Roots of the Spirit” since 2010 which promotes social justice by bridging history to the present through education, storytelling, and the arts.
Spirit is the host of the Roots of the Spirit Podcast and antiracism educator. She previously worked as an executive coordinator for Civil Rights Foundation in 2021. She also worked as a project coordinator for the New York City Department of Records.
Delving more into her professional career, she was the Legacy of the Movement Speaker at Facing History and Ourselves from August 2015 to January 2021.

“I was trained with that since I was born. I saw how he lead and I saw how he spoke many languages and I saw how he was able to move with different cultures and different races and so I got all of that from him.”
