Al Michaels, whose real name is Alan Richard Michaels, was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 12, 1944.

His parents are Jay Leonard Michaels and Lila Roginsky. Michael grew up in a family of five with his parents, a brother David Michaels, and a sister Susan Michaels.

Michael also completed his high school education from his birthplace New York. He went to Alexander Hamilton High School in Elmsford, New York.

It was hard for his parents to complete the education of three children and give them a good life due to which they had to move to Los Angeles.

Even after facing economic stability, his parents worked hard to provide them with education and Michael was able to enroll in high school and graduated with good grades.

Later on, he joined Arizona State University, where he took radio and television as majors, and journalism as a minor.

He also worked as a sportswriter for his university's independent student newspaper, The State Press.

Professional Life

Michael was a firm believer that one should do what his/her heart wants and following his passion he started his career in sportscasting for the Los Angeles Lakers in 1967 as a color commentator.

After a brief period of working for Lakers, he joined KHVH-TV as a sports anchor for which he had to move to Honolulu. He was also named Hawaii's "Sportscaster of the Year" in 1969. 

In 1972, he helped to cover the Fall Classics for NBC Sports and worked with them for a period of two to three years.

After leaving NBC, Al joined CBS Sports in 1975 as the regional NFL announcer. Michaels has worked for various news channels including ABC Sports.

He joined ABC Sports as a backup announcer for Monday Night Baseball in 1976 and after years of amazing work, he became the lead baseball announcer in 1983.

Michaels had an experience in the 1972 Winter Olympics which made him one of the favorites and he was chosen for the same in 1980 when Michaels called the ice hockey match between the US and the Soviet Union.
