Gavin Escobar, who played six seasons in the NFL as an American football tight end, died on September 28, 2022, in an apparent rock-climbing accident in California.
Gavin was a former tight end for the Dallas Cowboys and was working for the Long Beach Fire Department since February 2022.

The Long Beach Fire Department also issued the news of his demise on Instagram writing,
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the off-duty death of Long Beach Firefighter Gavin Escobar. Hired on February 5, 2022, Firefighter Escobar was assigned to Fire Station 3 on B-shift. Firefighter Escobar leaves behind his wife and two young children.”
Gavin was previously diagnosed with cancer but became cancer free in 2010.

Gavin played football since attending the Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Rancho Santa Margarita, California. He later received a football scholarship from San Diego State University.
He started his professional career with Dallas Cowboys and made his NFL debut on September 8, 2013.
Gavin played for Dallas Cowboys from 2013 to 2016 and then joined Kansas City Chiefs, signing a one-year contract.
He has also played for Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins, and San Diego Fleet.
