From being an assistant to listing his name in one of the best National Football League (NFL) coaches of all time, Andy has come a long way. Even at the age of 64 (today), he is actively coaching his team to win the Super Bowl again.
Let us find out more about him.
Early Life
Andy was born on 19 March 1958. His parents are Walter and Elizabeth.
Andy is the youngest of the family and his older brother Reggie Reid was like a guide to him following him everywhere as a kid.
Andy attended John Marshall High School and worked at Dodger Stadium as a teenager. His further study was at Brigham Young University where he did not play football but was very analytical and strategic.
Even as a kid, he used to be the leader of his group who always united the team. Coaching was probably in his blood since then.
He was very athletic and inspirational playing baseball, football, and basketball, for all he used to give his cent percent. In college, he was one of the best players.
Is Andy Reid Still Married?
Andy Reid has been married for more than four decades to his longtime wife, Tammy Reid.
Andy and Tammy met at BYU when both of them took the class Fundamentals of Tennis. They started dating after Andy asked Tammy out for a movie date.
The coach married Tammy Reid in 1981 and since then the couple has been strong in love.
He has five children who are three sons and two daughters. Unfortunately, his oldest son Garrett passed away at the age of 29 in 2012 due to excessive abuse of heroin leading to a fatal overdose.
In 2007, Britt, Andy’s younger son, was arrested on the same day as Garrett for engaging in road rage. Britt also struggled with drug use. Now, Britt is serving 3 years of prison time for hitting a five years old girl and severely injuring her, he was intoxicated and lost control.
Thankfully, he is lucky on the daughter's side with no such cases to the news.
Andy loves his family as much as he loves football. According to wiki sources, no matter how busy he would be, he always took time to have breakfast with his kids and dropped one group at school while his wife dropped the other group.
Career
Andy is the head coach of Kansas City Chief since 2013. Before Kansas City, he coached the Philadelphia Eagles till 2012. And something interesting about his career is that he never was an NFL player.
His three consecutive bad seasons in the Eagles led him to be fired. But with Kansas City Chiefs quickly hiring him as their head coach, he won the Super Bowl against the San Fransisco 49ers with a score of 31-20 in 2019 breaking the Chiefs’ 50 years of championship bad luck.
Awards
Reid won the NFL Coach of the Year in 2002 with the Eagles. Under him, many players have won Coming Back Player of the Year (Michael Vick in 2010, Eric Berry in 2015).
In 2015 Marcus Peters won the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year, and Patrick Mahomes bagged the AP Offensive Player of the Year 2018 as well as the Most Valuable Player in 2018, all under Andy Reid.
His other achievements include Spoting Coach of the Year (2000, 2002, 2018), and Maxwell Club NFL Coach of the Year (2000,2002,2010,2018). No wonder, he is amazing.
Before NFL
Before Andy made it to the NFL his talent of keen observation and a good understanding of the game was praised equally. After graduating from Brigham Young University, the head coach of the BYU football team wanted Andy to serve as the graduate assistant coach for the 1982 season which Andy did.
In 1983, Andy performed as the offensive line coach for the San Fransisco State Gators. Three seasons passed in San Fransisco Gators after that Reid moved to Northern Arizona Lumberjacks for the season 1986.
The year 1987 was when he effortlessly ranked up the offensive program of Texas-El Paso. Grabbing success in 1987, he went to Missouri as an offensive line coach where the team did not do well so in 1991 Reid went to Green Bay Packers (the start of his NFL career) as the offensive line and the quarterbacks coach.
Net Worth
The successful coach has a massive net worth of $30 million and will get an annual salary of $12 million as of 2023.
His coaching life has surely added to the numbers making him one of the richest coaches in the history of the NFL.
Physical Appearance
When we think of the NFL anyone associated with it is believed to have a jacked and fit body but Andy Reid is a small exception as the coach does not look anything like his players.
Andy is 6 feet 2 inches and he used to weigh around 250 pounds which contributed to a lot of his health problems.
Weight Loss
However, in 2022 he lost 60 pounds and claimed that he feels fantastic about it.
Weight loss helped him recover from fatigue and health problems, and is helping to coach his team better.
